Simply double-click on Install OMS 2.1 to install all necessary files for the Open Music System. After launching the installer application, follow the prompts to the main install screen and then make sure that Easy Install is selected in the pop-up menu.
You can install individual components of your OMS software (Studio 4 and Studio 5 software, OMS IAC driver, Serial Switch, or OMS Technical Publications) by choosing Custom Install from the pop-up menu.
NOTE: If you encounter problems during installation it may be necessary to disable any extensions or control panels that could be interfering; restart your Macintosh and hold down the Shift key until you see Welcome to Macintosh. Extensions Off.
Easy Install...what's installed?
When using Easy Install you are asked whether you have a Studio 4 or Studio 5. If you answer Yes, all necessary software for these MIDI interfaces will be installed.
In addition to the OMS software, Easy Install installs OMS Technical Publications, a collection of informative documents that discuss topics not covered in your OMS manual.
Also installed is a file called ╥Serial Switch.╙ This control panel is necessary for Quadra 900/950 and IIfx owners; once installed on these machines, it should be set to Compatible. Other Mac owners may delete Serial Switch if desired.
Easy Install also installs Apple's new SerialDMA driver. SerialDMA is a driver that provides improved serial performance on Power Macintosh computers (and 660av and 840av Macintoshes). This feature may be turned off by unchecking the new check box in OMS Setup's Preferences dialog: Use Apple Serial DMA when available. See the OMS 2.1 Read Me file for more details.
NOTE: SerialDMA is "built in" to System 7.5.3 (System 7.5 Update 2.0). The OMS installer will not install the SerialDMA extension on machines running System 7.5.3.
Easy Install...what╒s not installed?
The only item not installed with Easy Install is the OMS IAC driver. This driver provides inter-application communication between OMS-compatible applications. To install the IAC driver choose ╥Custom Install╙ from the main install screen and then select that particular install package.
